AUBURN — The 2014 football schedule will be significantly more challenging for Auburn than this year with several difficult road trips and a tough draw from the East division of the Southeastern Conference.
As expected, the Tigers will travel to rivals Georgia and Alabama for the first time in one season in 2014, a year after hosting both foes for the first time ever. Auburn’s SEC East opponent in 2014 is South Carolina, which will come to the Plains on Oct. 25, though Heisman candidate defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will almost certainly have moved on to the NFL.
Auburn has seven home games and five road trips, opening the 2014 slate hosting Arkansas on Aug. 30, 2014, the first time the Tigers kick off a season against an SEC opponent since 1995.
A road trip to Manhattan, Kan. to face Kansas State on Sept. 20 is among four non-conference games for Auburn in 2014. The Tigers are 0-5 in non-conference road games since 2001.
The Arkansas game also marks the first time since 2003 that Auburn does not open conference play against Mississippi State.
After hosting San Jose State in the first ever meeting of the teams on Sept. 6, Auburn has an open week before heading to Kansas State on Sept. 20, the first time Auburn has played at KSU since 1978. The Tigers are 3-0 all-time against the Wildcats with the last meeting coming in 2007.
Auburn hosts Louisiana Tech, an opponent it has never lost to in 12 meetings (11-0-1) on Sept. 27, then hosts LSU on Oct. 4 and travels to Mississippi State on Oct. 11.
After another open week, Auburn hosts USC on Oct. 25 in the first of six straight weeks with a game. The Tigers head to Ole Miss (Nov. 1), host Texas A&M (Nov. 8), travel to Georgia (Nov. 15), host Samford (Nov. 22) and close at Alabama in the Iron Bowl (Nov. 29).
Auburn’s all-time record against its four non-conference opponents in 2014 is 40-0-2.
