Auburn Baseball: Big payday for Sunny Golloway

The Auburn Tigers hope an increase in pay will increase results for its baseball program.

Auburn University introduced former Oklahoma coach Sunny Golloway as the new head baseball coach at a press conference Saturday, and his $650,000 salary makes him the second highest paid coach in the SEC.

Golloway’s contract is more than a $300,000 raise from former coach John Pawlowski, who was fired on May 27.

Golloway leaves Oklahoma where he led the Sooners to a 346-181-1 record in nine seasons, including five straight 40-win seasons and four NCAA Super Regional appearances.… More

Uzomah relieved to have Malzahn Back

After nine days of chaos surrounding the Tigers’ coaching vacancy, Gus Malzahn’s introduction put a stop the the speculation and banter. Tight end C.J. Uzomah said he is glad the coaching search is over.

“I feel I speak for the team in that we’re all a little relieved that we do have a head coach and especially a coach like coach Malzahn,” Uzomah said. “It’s been kind of challenging but I think now that we have a coach and it is coach Malzahn that it’ll be a lot smoother from here on.”

Wallace excited about Malzahn’s offense

New Auburn coach Gus Malzahn brings his high-paced, no-huddle offense back to the Plains. Quarterback Jonathan Wallace said he is looking forward to the change.

“Of course that’s what I did in high school,” Wallace said, “and just to be able to get back to it now, it’s going to be fun. It’s all about work ethic and how much time you spend with it. That’s going to be the biggest things making this transition.”

Loeffler said Tide D is toughest test yet

Heading into the 77th Iron Bowl, the Alabama defense is No. 1 in the SEC in scoring, total yards, passing yards and rushing yards. Even though the Tigers have gone up against top-notch defenses like LSU and Georgia, offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler said the Alabama defense will be the toughest the Tigers have seen all year.

“Absolutely,” Loeffler said. “That’s not to downplay the LSU defenses, the Georgias of the world, because they’re excellent also. But this is a big, powerful, stout front.… More

Wallace’s play a moral victory in Tigers’ shutout

Despite Auburn getting blown out 38-0 by Georgia, freshman quarterback Jonathan Wallace had a solid debut in first SEC action. Wallace went 15-for-22 for 181 yards with an interception and added nine yards on the ground.

“There are some things that he did quite well and that’s a great defense we were playing,” offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler said. “Not a good defense, a great defense. He did some things against some very good players tonight that will make him grow.… More
