Jay Jacobs speaks at Auburn Chamber of Commerce

AUBURN — Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs spoke at the Auburn Chamber of Commerce Tuesday morning. Here are highlights from the speech. There will be a full story later.

His speech covered nearly all of the points covered in the Advertiser’s extensive report on the athletic department on April 28 based on a 1-on-1 interview with Jacobs.

Jacobs quotes:

“We have a lot to be proud of and we have a lot to focus on. We have a great history and a great future.”

“We got a lot of work to do and I’m excited about doing it. … I know the best days are not behind Auburn, the best days are ahead”

“Our major sports have not performed at a level we all expect. But it’s a ‘New Day’”

“When athletics wins, we all win.”

Dr. Jay Gogue’s expectations “are high and I intend to meet them.”

On men’s basketball Jacobs says he brought coach Tony Barbee back, some may disagree but “I expect results”

Jacobs announced the baseball clubhouse will be renovated thanks to a $1 million gift from Tim Hudson and his wife.
