AUBURN — We’ll have live updates of tonight’s Tiger Talk radio show with coach Gus Malzahn.
7:56: Malzahn wraps up with a final word on the QB situation. “We’ll have one ready to go. There’s no doubt about that.”
7:50: Caller asks Malzahn about a linebacker who’s having trouble in the run game. Coach responds that anytime there’s a problem in run fits, it’s not one person.
7:45: Malzahn watches extra film at 6:30 a.m. on game day with Rhett Lashlee and Kodi Burns. After a few group meetings, it’s onto the bus.
Malzahn jokes they’re working on Carl Lawson’s post-sack skipping. “As long as he sacks, I’m fine if he skips off the field. Our players had a lot of fun with that.”
7:21: Malzahn reiterates that no decision has been made regarding former G.W. Carver star Jeremy Johnson or whether or not he’ll play Saturday. Decision to be made within next 24 hours.
7:16: Malzahn says Nick Marshall was at practice today and no decision has been made as to whether or not he will start. Malzahn and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee will made the call tomorrow, including who will play in Marshall’s place if he can’t go.
7:12: Malzahn says Ole Miss RB Jeff Scott (six carries for 66 yards) was a focus last week. Ends wanted to contain the QB. Defense executed well and six sacks was a big part of the game.
7:10: First question to Malzahn is about Cody Parkey’s field goal range. Malzahn says Parkey can kick from 55 yards consistently.
The top story to pay attention to would be if Malzahn addresses whether or not Nick Marshall will play in Saturday’s game against Western Carolina. As of Wednesday night, there was “a chance” Marshall was not going to play and whether Jonathan Wallace or Jeremy Johnson would be his replacement was also undetermined.
The original plan was for offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson to be on tonight’s program but something caused a change. Whether that has anything to do with the quarterback situation, we’ll see. Malzahn just might have wanted a chance to answer more questions about Waffle House hash browns.
