AUBURN — We’re listening live to Tiger Talk with Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, which is on location at Bob’s Victory Grille in Auburn tonight. The Tigers (3-1, 1-1 SEC) host No. 24 Ole Miss (3-1, 1-1 SEC) at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday.
7:43 p.m.: Malzahn says offensively the Tigers need to run the football and have some explosive plays to pick up first downs. Defensively, the focus is preventing Ole Miss from doing the same.
7:39 p.m.: A fan asks Malzahn what he’ll do if the Tigers win the toss. “I like to receive but I always kind of go out and I check the weather,” Malzahn says, avoiding tipping his hand on the plans for Saturday.
7:28 p.m.: A fan asks Malzahn about Ole Miss running back Jeff Scott. “You got to know where he’s at on the field. He’s electric. … You can’t assume he’s down.” Malzahn references the 55-yard TD by Scott in last year’s game as an example of Scott’s ability to keep a play alive.
7:19 p.m.: A second fan asks if Ole Miss has given Malzahn any bulletin board material in the newspaper this week. “I don’t read newspapers,” Malzahn said. “Huge Freeze is a pretty smart guy; I don’t think there’s been any bulletin board.” Of course, if Malzahn did read newspapers, he’d know Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace gave Alabama bulletin board material just last week.
7:14 p.m.: First audience question is a familiar voice who once again opens by saying he does not have a question for coach Malzahn, but instead wishes to share his sentiments. Fan thanks Malzahn for restoring “respect” to the program and returning Tiger Talk to an interactive porgram.
7:10 p.m.: On the message to the team after the LSU game, Malzahn said it was a “mixed message” of the mistakes the team made but being proud of the fight back int he second half.
“Our message is: we went in there to win. We didn’t get that done.”
