AUBURN – Bruce Pearl met with SEC commissioner Mike Slive Tuesday morning in Birmingham, in the first meeting of the pair since Pearl was hired at Auburn.
The new Tigers coach planned to thank Slive for allowing him to return to coaching in the SEC.
“I’m going to Birmingham (Tuesday) to meet with the commissioner in the morning,” Pearl said Monday. “I’m going to thank him for allowing me to come back. I don’t know what role he played in it other than he certainly could have prevented it and he didn’t. I’m grateful and I hope to bring really good positive things to the league that I didn’t do before.”
Pearl was hired two weeks ago after agreeing to a six-year $14.7 million deal. Slive issued a statement regarding Auburn’s hiring of Pearl, who is the first coach to be hired with an active NCAA show-cause penalty.
