AUBURN – Trovon Reed is switching to defense. After three seasons at wide receiver Reed, who had nine catches for 98 yards this season, is moving to defensive back, according to a post on his Instragram account.
“Will Be The Best CornerBack In The Nation 2014 Season!!,” Reed said in a post which has since been deleted.
Reed’s move to corner for his senior season comes as Chris Davis departs. Johnathan Ford may also be moving back to tail back, creating a void in the two-deep at boundary corner. Ryan White and Ryan Smith are also graduating, leaving Josh Holsey to come back from his torn ACL and resume the starting boundary safety role.
Reed developed into Auburn’s best blocking receiver after Jaylon Denson torn his patellar tendon in the loss to LSU. Denson could return to the role next season but is not expected to practice much in spring so someone else may get a chance.
